In order to fully review this movie, I felt the need to look back at all of the batman movies and read all of their user reviews so I could see both flaws and triumph. Right off the bat (haha) I'm going to conclude that the Batman's before this film were all decent. Of course Tim Burton's Batman stuck out the most. Jack and Keaton seemed fitted for those roles. As a movie, it was pretty good.
TDR was a great movie with exceptional acting. TDKR is great acting with an exceptional story. It is truly hard to say which is better. But look at this from a movie critic standpoint. In rare occasions, sequels are better than the originals. But TDKR is number three. It is most likely the best third movie I have ever seen. Name one better?
Then Nolan changed superhero movies forever when he released Batman Begins. As a batman fan, he stayed true to the Comic. From a comic book reader, that was the best comic adaptation. However we are rating movies based on comics, not just a comic.
That being said, The Dark Knight Rises takes this trilogy to new heights. This film dares to tread terrifying emotional waters. Bale, Caine, and Oldman show beautiful emotional sides. While Hathaway, Hardy, and Marion show how well emotionless characters can be. I was impressed with the acting.
While The Joker and Bane should never be compared, it's truly hard to tell who was able to sell their villain more. While The Joker was fun and daring, Bane creeped the living stuff out of me.
In conclusion, you will enjoy this film. I'm seeing it for the third time tonight and still anxious for it. While TDK has a better beginning and a comparable middle, TDKR triumphs the end. It has the best ending and will leave you wishing the series was longer. I recommend seeing the two previous films before watching this. And give Batman Begins more credit, that film set the bar and stayed true to batman fans.

The Dark Knight Rises. The most anticipated film of the decade so far, and the finisher to an epic trilogy. Only perfection will do, it seems.
Unfortunately, perfection is something that has arguably never been achieved in film, so asking that of Nolan may be a bit much. What should be asked of Nolan, however, is cohesion. And it is this which drags the film from an intelligent and deep thriller down to an average summer blockbuster.
The lack of cohesion manifests itself in each element of the film, as sporadic directing hampers an ambitious story. When dealing with a story of this scale, intimacy is the key balance that must be applied; but intimacy is hard to find. We are given stacks of characters with their own branching stories, but none of them feel particularly fulfilled. Bane's history is lightly explored, and a dire lack of information is regards to Selina Kyle brings down what is otherwise a respectable performance from Anne Hathaway.
Our titular hero is also handled bizarrely, being followed religiously by the story at the beginning of the film, only to be lost in a sea of scenarios by the second half.
The reason the Dark Knight was so compelling was that it was focused - The Joker and Batman were polar opposites, and flowed seamlessly along the story line. But with Rises, the lines are blurred; as characters swap sides and back-stab with seemingly no reason or motive. Such flippant and fickle disregard can only be tolerated by the audience for so long.
Overall, the film is a mixed bag of jarring ideas and contrived messages; but when stripped to it's core, it's an exciting and menacing spectacle. It's just a shame that its predecessor's integrity wasn't kept intact.
